Advanced Reporting

The power-user class — for the people who build reports and dashboards for everyone else. (Reading and filtering existing dashboards is taught inside each role's class; this class is about creating them.)

Backbone: CV BD §Analytics and the bd5.3-bd-analytics-reporting feature (code repo).

Objectives

By the end you can: - Create a report from scratch — pick the report type, columns, filters, grouping. - Clone and adapt a standard report without breaking the original. - Build a dashboard from reports and share it to the right folder/audience. - Set up dashboard subscriptions and refresh schedules.

Prerequisites

ClientVerse Introduction, comfort reading the standard dashboards (from your role's class), and report-builder access.

Agenda

1. Advanced list views — multi-column sort (Sort button → Add a sort column), Gear → Select Fields to Display (move/order columns), Gear → New / Clone a view with sharing options, and the Table / Kanban / Split display modes.
  2. Creating reportsApp Launcher → Reports → New Report → choose a report type (e.g. Contacts & Accounts, Opportunities) → Start Report. In the builder (Filters/Groups on the left, preview on the right): add filters and columns, Group Rows (drag a field), add a summary (record count / totals) and optionally a chart, then Run and Save to your own/team folder (not a shared firm folder). (Business Process Library §3.12.)
  3. Creating dashboardsDashboards → New Dashboard+ Component → pick a source report → choose chart/table/metric → arrange & resize → Save → Done. Shortcut: from an open report, + Add to Dashboard.
  4. Sharing & subscriptions — folder sharing, subscriptions, refresh schedules. For deeper skills, point users to the Salesforce Trailhead module Reports & Dashboards for Lightning Experience (~1 hr 50 min).

Hands-on (homework)

The real post-class homework: 1. Create your own list view (e.g. Campaigns filtered to event type). 2. Create a report of all open opportunities for a chosen practice — grouped by stage with a record-count summary. 3. Create a dashboard that includes that report.

You're ready when…

You can turn a recurring "can someone pull…" request into a self-serve report or dashboard that your team refreshes themselves.
